Privacy Policy
How we collect, use, and protect your information when you use 0byte.
Last updated July 6, 2026
Overview
0byte Lab ("0byte", "we", "us") builds the origin protocol for AI content — a service that creates and verifies cryptographic proofs of origin for AI-generated media. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. It applies to 0byte.tech, our API, SDKs, and browser extension.
Information we collect
We keep collection to what the service needs to work:
- Account data — your name, email address, and hashed API credentials when you create an account or join the waitlist.
- Content fingerprints — when you stamp or verify media, we compute a perceptual fingerprint (a compact hash). We do not store your original files; the fingerprint cannot reconstruct the source content.
- Proof metadata — the model, provider, and timestamp you attach to a proof, which becomes part of the public transparency log.
- Usage data — API request logs, IP address, and basic telemetry used for rate limiting, security, and reliability.
How we use information
- To create, verify, and serve proofs of origin.
- To operate, secure, and improve the service, including preventing abuse and enforcing rate limits.
- To communicate with you about your account, waitlist status, or material changes to the service.
The transparency log
Proofs of origin are anchored in a public, append-only transparency log. Proof identifiers, fingerprints, and the metadata you attach are designed to be publicly verifiable and permanent. Do not include personal or sensitive information in fields you attach to a proof.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with infrastructure providers that process it on our behalf under contract, or where required by law. Publicly verifiable proof data is, by design, available to anyone who queries the log.
Data retention
Account data is retained while your account is active. Proof records and transparency-log entries are permanent by design and cannot be deleted without breaking verification. Operational logs are retained for a limited period and then discarded.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal account data, or to object to certain processing. To make a request, email us at the address below. Note that permanent proof-of-origin records in the transparency log cannot be erased.
